US Governor declares October 6 ‘Wizkid Day’

As part of a conscious effort to honor and celebrate the lifetime  musical achievements of popular  Nigerian pop music star, Ibrahim Ayodeji Balogun, aka Wizkid, Mark Dayton, Governor of Minnesota, United State of American has declared October 6 of every year as ‘Wizkid Day.

 

According to the document which was officially signed, stamped and sealed by the governor, the reason behind the declaration was to honour the ‘Nowo’ crooner for his laudable achievements in music and for his role as a culture influencer.

Some of his achievements, include recently becoming the first African artiste to sell out the Skyway Theatre Minneapolis, making a Billboard number one hit ‘One Dance’ with Drake, selling out the O2 Arena London, walking the runway as a model for Dolce and Gabbana,  winning countless international awards among other notable milestone achievements.

Rapper, M.I Abaga was a guest on a talk show called ‘Orin Conversations’ where he talked about many issues including the state of hip-hop genre in Nigeria.

To buttress a point, M.I was played a clip from a 2015 interview that sawOlamide defending his decision to not remain a hardcore rapper and seemingly mocked those doing so.

But MI in his reaction to the clip had a different view about it.

He said; “In terms of the video, i can’t speak from their own vantage point of view, but i can imagine that when they were coming up, they were being attacked for what they were doing because if i remove all the pop music that Olamide has done and i just look at his hip-hop catalog, he’s one of the dopest rappers.

“Everything he said he contradicted it by his catalog, he’s the metaphor rapper, he’s such a dope rapper metaphorically, in terms of hardcore, what is hardcore? Hardcore is about the sound, carriage of yourself, stuff like that.. Who’s more hardcore than Olamide?”

APC Will Form Govt In Akwa Ibom State — Leadership Newspaper September 6, 2018 

Congress (APC) in Akwa Ibom state, Senator Akpan Uduedehe has said that he will support who ever emerged winner of a free and fair governorship primary in the state and would work for the interest of the party.

He also assured the party that as a firm believer in the principles of the party and President Muhammadu Buhari, he will not stop supporting the programmes of the party, stressing that the party in Akwa Ibom state will use the direct primary option for its primary.

The aspirant who spoke after collecting his nomination and expression of interest form from the National Organising Secretary, Emma Ibediro said the interest of the party was very paramount, pointing out that he was a firm believer in the principle of fairness and equity.

He also expressed the confidence APC to form the next government in the state in 2019, stressing that with the right candidate and right approaches, the APC has what it takes to defeat an incumbent governor.

He said “the primary has to be free, fair and credible. If you defeat me in a free and fair primary, I will work for you and the party, but if you win in a primary that is not free and fair, you are on your own.

“I did it in 2011 and my friend who has joined us now is aware of that even though they locked down the process. Now, with a President who has not only promised, but is interested in a credible election, you can be rest assured that victory is assured and the incumbent who has collected billions from the federations account and has nothing to show for it will be defeated.

“How do you really explain that as a child? But it did happen, and he left my school after a while, so we drifted apart. Then we met somewhere again. We drifted apart again and then that was it.”

Simi went on to admit that she is currently in a romantic relationship with someone she hopes to eventually build a family with. She believes that should naturally be the outcome when one is emotionally invested in a love affair.

“Well, I hope he is the one because I don’t think relationships should just be for leisure. I can’t really speak for anybody but for me. If I am giving you an access to that part of my life then it has to be worth my while and worth his while as well. But I can’t force it though, if he is the one, fine and if not, fine“, she said.
